[Though she typically prefers video communication, Bulla deliberately selects voice. It's difficult to tell whether she sounds a little off because she's tired, depressed, or sick, but she's definitely not her usual upbeat and sociable self.]

Hi, everyone. I could use some suggestions for a distraction or three. Preferably something where you don't have to move around much.

[Truthfully, she's tired, depressed, and not feeling well, though it's due to an injury rather than illness. Her mother has vanished from Luceti, and she's recovering from the worst injury she's ever had in her life courtesy of a cultist.]

...and if you're suggesting reading, please suggest a specific book, because I've already read everything I have here in the house.

He was pretty difficult to deal with. I don't know if I ever mentioned it before, but in my world, some people have powers. Baby's was that he could possess people. When he got stronger, he could possess many people at once.

Ohh, I see. No, I don't think you did...ugh, that sounds scary, though, knowing someone could take control of your body like that.

It's super creepy. He's got these gross red beady eyes, too...and when he possesses someone, they sound like they're on drugs or something.

[Bulla shudders a little at that. Not even the cultists who stabbed her scare her that much.]

Luckily, he was beaten and he isn't a problem anymore, but he came close to taking over the world. It didn't help that he targeted people with powers first.

[And Quinn shudders, too, this guy sounds like something out of Sick Sad World!]

It's okay. It was creepy, but he's long gone. I'll only be worried if he shows up here...but at least I know what to look for so I can warn everyone.

But enough about that creep. How have you been since that whole weird fake memories thing?

I've been all right. But I'll no longer take this day and age for granted, women back then worried too much about being seen as "good girls". I mean, yeah, tramping around with boys is a bad idea, but there's other things to worry about than your reputation! Diseases, pregnancy, the fact that too many of them can't be trusted for anything!

[Bulla looks worried about Quinn when she mentions that last part.]

You didn't have a fake reality boyfriend wind up cheating on you too, did you?

Oh, no, nothing like that! I was just thinking of the boys back home...I've never had that happen, of course, but my friend Stacy's gotten her heart stepped on more times than any of us can count!

Oh, I see. I'm so sorry for Stacy. The only time a boy broke my heart, it was in that fake reality anyway...but I can imagine how awful it must be for Stacy if it keeps happening.

[Usually her father just scares away any of her prospective boyfriends.]

Ooh, only one time...you're lucky, then. Sorry it happened, though, he must have been a jerk!

[She deliberately chose not to mention a certain tutor of hers. Knowing it happened is humiliating and painful enough, but she doesn't want her friend to feel bad for her, especially when she's in such a bad state.]

Yeah. At first we thought it was her fault because she doesn't always wear the right clothes and says embarrassing things...Sandi still does. But honestly, most guys do way worse than wearing the wrong shoes or mentioning their pruny hands! I once dated a boy who wore a nacho-stained t-shirt and wouldn't stop talking about his burping contests with his friends. [Ewww. And then he had the gall to wonder why she said no to a second date!]

Actually, the worst part about it was, Neji was a good boyfriend right up until he cheated on me with another guy.

[She counts herself very fortunate that she hasn't had any run-ins with him since.]

...oh, that's just gross. The worst my brother ever did to mess up his relationships was bore his girlfriends with technology talk.

Oh, dear...that had to be awkward. Why would he cheat, anyway?

It was. I'd rather have a guy talk my ear off about football or cars than wear stained clothing! Even if I don't care about football and I just want a car to drive places in, not go under the hood!

I don't know. Stupid teenage boy hormones, I guess.

[She shakes her head. Hopefully she won't run into Neji in the near future. Even if she can separate the real memories from the fake ones, it's still going to be very, very awkward.]

I'd be okay with a guy talking about cars to me...but I might know more about them than he would. My family's company makes mostly transportation technology like cars, scooters, and planes.

Oh, really? That's pretty neat! I've never known anyone who makes things like that...my mother's a lawyer, and my dad is...um, between jobs at the moment. [Poor guy can't hold much of one down thanks to his, um, issues.]

My grandfather and mother are genius inventors and my older brother is pretty smart with that kind of thing, too. Dad doesn't have a job officially - he competes in world-wide martial arts tournaments.

[Bulla knows he'd balk at being called a superhero, even if he does use his abilities to protect the world when threats arise.]

Wow...your family sounds amazing. My family's kind of blah in comparison...but I guess not? I mean, Daria is a genius and she's gotten into some pretty weird adventures. [She doesn't want to be jealous, that's the old Quinn...but still.] And I guess Mom's a damn good lawyer if she hardly ever has time to make real dinners.

If my brother ever shows up here, we should totally introduce him and Daria so they can have genius conversations with each other.

Hahaha! She might enjoy that, actually. Daria's not too good with meeting new people but if she has something in common with them they might hit it off!

They just might. I think it would be good for both of them, if and when that happens.

...hey Quinn? When I get better, want me to teach you some self-defense moves?

Oh? Hmm...I've never thought of self-defense moves before. [Back home, Sandi would never approve of Fashion Club members doing sports or anything like it. But Sandi's not here.] But they sound like they'd come in handy.

It's definitely a good idea to pick up the basics. Especially with the possibility of a draft.

[She'd suggest learning a weapon, but it's probably best to just start with how to throw a proper punch, a good kick, and how to use an opponent's force against them.]

I started training at first because I heard they even draft little kids sometimes.

I haven't been drafted yet, but my math teacher always used to talk about probability. I don't remember what she said but I know my luck can't hold out forever. So yeah...training sounds like a good idea. [After knowing what Bulla went through, a broken nail isn't such a big deal.]

All right. I can teach you the basics, and if you wanted to start before I've recovered, I know a few people who probably wouldn't mind helping out.

[She'd have to talk to someone who Quinn wouldn't mind being around, though. Ino might be a good choice. Ino likes fashion, and she's a ninja.]
